Six Costly Misconceptions About Financial Planning

Over the past few decades I have seen a lot of financial advisers come and go. I have also seen consumers make what I thought were poor financial decisions when they did not have enough information to make a good and informed decision. Today I want to share some things you need to know that can help you with your current financial planning relationship or one that you may create in the future. After all, a good relationship with the right adviser may make a huge difference in you and your family’s lives.

MISCONCEPTION #1: I don’t need a financial adviser. All I need is a good money manager.

Money management, especially once you retire, is very important. Growing your portfolio to outpace inflation while generating enough income to live on each month is critical. Good money management is non-negotiable. However; we have seen bad financial life decision making wreck good plans enough times to know that human beings are inclined to make bad choices about money.  Are you prone to want to move all of your money to cash when the market falters? That may be the wrong move. Could you ever get caught up in taking that dream vacation without analyzing how it would affect your long-term income? That may be the wrong move. An objective third party financial adviser may help you make sound decisions about your financial life by helping you do more than just pick stocks and bonds.

MISCONCEPTION #2: Mutual funds are a safe and a good way to beat the market.

Mutual funds can be a great way to start your investing...low minimums...potential diversification....easy. But once you are a million dollar investor, a mutual fund can be your most expensive way to go and you should determine if you have outgrown your mutual funds. According to Investopedia, the average cost of a mutual fund is between 1.3% - 1.5%. So they are not cheap. While potentially having larger minimum account sizes, low cost ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds) or portfolios where you actually hold the individual securities (vs. a mutual fund where you don’t actually hold the stock) could be a better option for you.

Please note, ETFs will fluctuate with changes in market conditions and are not suitable for all investors. Since ETFs trade like stocks, they are subject to brokerage fees and trading spreads. Therefore, ETFs are not effective for dollar cost averaging small amounts over time, and likewise any strategy using ETFs must account for these additional costs. ETFs do not necessarily trade at the net asset values of their underlying holdings, meaning an ETF could potentially trade above or below the value of the underlying portfolio. Also, equity investing involves market risk, including possible loss of principal.

MISCONCEPTION #3: Any financial professional can help me.

A good financial adviser helping a young couple make the right decisions starting out their work life may make a meaningful difference by the time they reach retirement. However; a couple that has wealth of ten million dollars may also experience fruitful benefits from such a relationship but the type of advice will be much different. At this level, one needs a specialist. If you needed brain surgery you would not ask your primary care physician to operate on you. You need to treat your wealth the same way. Have you outgrown your financial professional?

MISCONCEPTION #4: If I don’t see an expense on my statement I must not be paying it.

Beware of hidden costs and fees. Most investors have no idea what their investments costs are. It is your right and duty to know. Before investing in anything, make sure you know the hidden costs such as management fees, 12b1 fees, trading costs, in addition to the management fee that you may pay your adviser directly.

MISCONCEPTION #5: It is OK to work with an adviser that has no team.

There are 3 reasons that you need to work with a team. The first reason is specialty. As one’s wealth grows so does the expertise level required to manage one’s financial life. In our experience, this requires different skill sets and mastery. Mastery comes by spending time and gaining experience. One person, as good as they may seem, cannot be an expert in all of the areas that you need. The second reason is that you want your advisers to last beyond you. What happens if your adviser gets sick, disabled, or dies? A good team, where you actually have a relationship with multiple people in the organization, can help alleviate this concern and help keep you on track for multiple generations. Finally, a third reason to choose a team is that the larger the organization that you are dealing with the more favorable pricing you should be able to get. The financial business is driven by numbers, and the bigger organizations get the most attention, price breaks, and notice on new things like technology and innovations which could then benefit you directly.

MISCONCEPTION #6: All financial professionals are required by law to make recommendations that are in my best interest.

You would think that a law that forces financial professionals to recommend only solutions that were in the best interest of clients would be a welcome and logical idea. That is not the case. The word used for someone that is held to a standard of only providing advice that are in the best interest for you is a “fiduciary”. The truth is that not all financial professionals have been operating under the fiduciary standard. When someone operates as your fiduciary they are required to put your best interest first. Period. Not all financial professionals have been required to operate under the fiduciary obligation. This is a special relationship that has only existed between Investment Adviser Representatives (IARs) and you. A IAR is typically someone that works with or owns an Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) firm. Any broker working for or representing a broker-dealer has not fallen under the same standard until the Department of Labor changed their guidelines in 2016. Know which mandate your financial professional has been operating under and choose someone that was your fiduciary before that was the “cool” thing to do.

SHOCKING: Final Year Female Student Murdered by her Cultist Lover in Ogwashi-Uku polytechnic

Tragedy struck the Ogwashi-Uku community of Delta State on Tuesday as a final year female student of the Delta State Polytechnic, simply identified as Julia, was allegedly murdered by her cultist lover.

The deceased, who was in the department of Mathematics and Statistics, was murdered in her room in a private hostel off Polytechnic Road in Ogwashi-Uku.

According to one of her co-students in the hostel who spoke with INFO-GEOGRAPHY, the man, whose name has yet to be ascertained, had spent the previous night in the room of the deceased, and had stolen her ATM card.

"After her cultist lover had left the following day she received an alert of a N100,000 deduction from her bank account where she discovered her ATM card was missing. Not comfortable with the development, she went straight to her bathroom to take her bath. Immediately after that, she received another alert of N45,000 making it N145,000 that was [withdrawn] from her account by the unknown person.

"Before leaving for the bank, she complained to us [about] the strange development. Again, on her return from the bank where she went to complain, she told us the bank assured her that the culprit could only be known and arrested after going through their CCDC camera. She was told to go home and report back the following [day] before meeting her untimely death," the co-student said.

The source speculated that unknown to anyone in the hostel, the suspect sneaked into Julia's room and murdered her with a battle axe, locked the corpse inside the room and ran away with her keys.

"Not until the next morning when everybody became apprehensive of her whereabouts and we [had] to break her door where we saw her lifeless body with blood stains everywhere in the room. Immediately we raised the alarm and everybody in the area rushed down and the matter was reported to the Ogwashi-Uku Police Station," the source narrated

Repeated calls to the new Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Andrew Aniameka, were not answered.  However, a source at the Ogwashi-Uku station who didn’t want to be identified confirmed the story, adding that the police and the bank are currently working around the clock to arrest the suspect, who is on the run.

INFO-GEOGRAPHY learned that the remains of the late Julia have since been buried in her home town.

BUMPER LOAD OF NEW VIRUSES IDENTIFIED

Virus have been infecting invertebrates for possibly billions of years

An international research team led from Australia and China has discovered nearly 1,500 new viruses.
The scientists looked for evidence of virus infection in a group of animals called invertebrates, which includes insects and spiders.
Not only does the study expand the catalogue of known viruses, it also indicates they have existed for billions of years.
The findings were published in the journal Nature.
Few would argue that all living species on Earth are susceptible to viruses – these microscopic parasites are ubiquitous.
But virologists have long suspected that our current view of the diversity of viruses is blinkered – all too often constrained to those causing disease in humans, animals and plants, or to those that we can grow in the laboratory.
A trip to a tropical rainforest or the African savannah gives a snapshot into the incredible diversity of visible life on Earth, but understanding the potentially mind-boggling myriad of minuscule viruses has not been so easy.
Capturing new viruses is not like netting a new species of butterfly – viruses are invisible.
Undeterred by this practical problem an international team was keen to survey invertebrates for new viral species.
Invertebrates are spineless creatures and the group includes many familiar animals, such as insects, spiders, worms and snails. They represent the vast majority of animal species in the world today.
Scientists wanting to work out the totality of viral "life" – although many virologists would argue that viruses are not truly alive – are starting to adopt techniques that reveal their genetic calling cards, revealed in the things they infect.

Some invertebrates do carry viruses that can infect humans, but the newly identified ones probably pose very little risk
Just like powerful new telescopes are peering deeper into space, revealing a wealth of hitherto unknown stars, next-generation sequencing techniques are providing new insight into the magnitude of the invisible world of viruses; a world we call the virosphere.
We are familiar with DNA, the "stuff of life" that makes up the blueprint of our genomes. But many viruses use a different chemical to construct their genomes – a substance known as RNA.
Just like DNA, this consists of strings of individual building blocks, or bases; each designated by a different letter: A, C, G and U.
Next generation sequencing allows researchers to quickly determine the sequence of these letters. And if you work out the order of the letters on any chain of RNA, you can determine if it belongs to a virus and whether or not the virus is new.
Its potential for virus discovery is huge.

The research team collected around 220 species of land- and water-dwelling invertebrates living in China, extracted their RNA and, using next-generation sequencing, deciphered the sequence of a staggering 6 trillion letters present in the invertebrate RNA "libraries".
When the researchers analysed this mass of data they realised that they had discovered almost 1,500 new virus species – a whopping number by any measure. Many of these were so distinct that they did not easily fit into our existing virus family tree.
Prof Elodie Ghedin from New York University, who was not directly involved with the study, told the BBC: "This is an extraordinary study providing the largest virus discovery to date.
"It will no doubt remodel our view of the virus world and redraw virus phylogeny.
"This is what happens when you combine a bold and brute force approach with the right technology and the right set of eyes."
Even though some invertebrates carry viruses that can infect hum

BURSTED! Robbers who robbed Basket Mouth confess how they execute d act

More than two months after popular comedian, Bright Okpocha, AKA Basketmouth, was robbed in his home at Lekki, Lagos, the police have apprehended the suspects and paraded them before journalists at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters, Ikeja.

The leader of the three-man gang who attacked Basketmouth, 24-year-old Chibuzor Ugwu,  explained that they simply stumbled on the comedian’s house during their robbery spree on September 7.

Ugwu, an Enugu State indigene living in Anambra State but came to Lagos regularly on the sole mission of carrying out robberies, explained that he was an internet fraudster for three years before he ventured into robbery.

He said, “Anytime I came to Lagos, I took my gang to vandalise vehicles and steal auto parts. We normally targetted Toyota and Honda vehicles.

“But the day we robbed Basketmouth’s house. We had operated on some vehicles in the area that day. We then peeped into a compound and saw a very nice car. When we gained access into the compound, we realised we could make more money by robbing the occupants of the house.

“We then used a bolt cutter to enter through the kitchen. It was when we entered the house that we realised that it was Basketmouth’s house. We saw the pictures of him and his family on the wall.”

According to Ugwu, who said he had done nothing else than internet fraud and robbery since he left secondary school, as soon as they saw Basketmouth, they believed they had hit the mother lode.

The suspect said he pointed a gun he was holding at the comedian and told him to cooperate.

He said they were shocked the comedian told them he had no cash at home.

Ugwu said, “We thought we were going to find millions of naira at the house. He was begging us not to hurt his family. He said he did not keep cash at home. But we told him to cooperate so that we would just operate peacefully and leave.

“We searched the whole apartment and found nothing. We only got a $200 note in his wallet along with the mobile phones in the house which he handed to us.

“Eventually  we left with the little we could find, we were not ready to hurt him because it was clear he was telling the truth when we searched everywhere and found no money.”

He said the phones collected in Basketmouth’s house were sold to a friend he identified as Osama at the Computer Village in Ikeja.

Ugwu explained that he bought the gun he took to the operation for N80,000 in Benue State.

Saturday PUNCH leart that Ugwu entered the police net when he went to a police station to reclaim his vehicle that was impounded after he abandoned it on a road where it broke down at Ijeshatedo area of Lagos.

“I had abandoned the vehicle on the road for some days. When I went there to pick it, I was told the police had impounded it. When I went to the station to claim it, I did not know the police had previously arrested a friend of mine who knew about my robbery activities,”  he said.

The friend he was talking about is 21-year-old Joseph Chimezie.

Chiemezie said he met Ugwu in Anambra State at a joint.

“He is fond of buying drinks for young men at the joint. I told him that anytime he was leaving for Lagos, he should take me along with him so I could find a job,” he said.

He said the day he eventually left for Lagos with him, a member of Ugwu’s gang took him to Ilasamaja and handed him a bag containing guns.

According to him, he was told to take the guns to a house but on the way, the police stopped him. When they searched the bag, they found guns and arrested him.

Chimezie said, “I don’t know about when they robbed Basketmouth. I did not follow them. I did not know that the police were looking for them.

“When they handed me the bag containing the guns, I was afraid and would have droppped it and run away but I knew nowhere in Ilasamaja. All I wanted was to make a better life for myself in Lagos.”

The Commissioner of Police said that the suspect will b charged to court.

50 INCREDIBLE WAYS TO SHOW SOMEONE YOU CARE ABOUT THEM

From receiving a cup of tea in bed to simply being asked if we’re OK, it’s often the little things that make a person feel most loved.

Forget huge gestures - a new study has confirmed that the 50 top ways to show someone you care are all remarkably simple.

A spontaneous hug, giving a compliment and saying ‘I love you’ all feature in the top 10, proving that it’s often gestures that require the smallest effort that have the biggest impact.

This waiter's random act of kindness resulted in a wonderful piece
This man's romantic gesture backfired majestically
One man's kind gesture on a plane moved a passerby to tears
However, some people do go the extra mile to show they care by sending flowers for no reason, planning a surprise trip away and undertaking a diet with someone.

Interestingly, whilst 60 per cent of people said their only motive is cheering up loved ones, 40 per cent admitted they hope their gestures would mean they got something in return later - 47 per cent of men are guilty of the latter, according to the study, compared to just 37 per cent of women.

UNBELIEVABLE!! UNIBEN medical student received 19 Awards during convocation ceremony

A medical student at the University of Benin (Uniben) has broken records, even as he got 19 awards at the institution’s last convocation ceremony.

The student, Pius Ehiremen Ojemolon was the toast of the day, as he was called upon severally to receive his awards.

Pius Ehiremen Ojemolon has been described as a genius as he was the recipient of 19 awards at the last Uniben convocation.
Nigeria has so many genius’s like Pius Ehiremen, many of them doing the nation proud even in the diaspora. Only recently, a young and talented boy from Ebonyi state, Ihere-serg Mascot, assembled a car which is powered by solar energy.

The 16-year-old boy said his car does not emit gas neither does it use fuel.

According to one Facebook user, Hon Agwu Francis, Mascot presented the car to Governor David Nweze Umahi of Ebonyi state at the government house, Abakaliki.

In a similar vein, Yusuf Ololade Faidat a graduate of the University of Ilorin has won 19 prizes for her academic performance.

Important things you must take to NYSC Camp

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on Monday, November 21,  posted the call-up letter for the Batch B corps members and many are jubilant as they got states they liked, while others are not so happy, as they were posted to states they did not like.

NYSC members,
For those heading to the various NYSC camps across the country starting Thursday, November 24, what are the things they will need to survive the 17 days of the orientation camp?

First, we consider the official requirements:

1. Call-up letter

This is the official call-up letter given to you by the NYSC. This will be taken from you and not returned, so you must not forget it, for it is the only evidence that you are a prospective corps member.

Also do not laminate it, for it will not be collected if you do so.

2.  Registration documents

If you are a foreign graduate you should take along the original credentials you uploaded to the NYSC Portal for physical verification and evaluation.

3. NYSC green card

The NYSC green card is the first print out when you originally registered, before you printed your call-up letter, it contains your personal details and bio-data.

4. School ID card

You also need to take along your school ID card, so if you have lost it, you have to make another one.

5. Statement of result

The statement of result given to you by your university is also an important document to take along.

6. Photocopies

Also make 10 copies each of all of the above documents, in case you are asked for more than one copy of any. There will be photocopiers in camp at mammy market but trust me, it is double the price and it saves time.

7. Passport photographers

Passport photographs are also very important, so you need to take as many as you can along with you. About 20 passports in red backgrounds are needed.

You will need these passports for the various registrations, which might include: skill acquisition groups, religious groups, sports, redeployment, bank account opening and so on.

8. Licenses

For doctors, pharmacists, nurses and lab scientists, you need to take along your proof of certification. This include their certificates of registration with the Nigerian Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (NMDCN) and for pharmacies with the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) respectively.

Now we consider personal needs:

9. Round-neck t-shirts

The round-neck white t-shirt is an essential outfit in camp in fact in most camps it is the only item of clothing allowed for the duration of the camp.

You will be given 2 pairs by the camp administration and since you may not have time to wash, you might consider bringing extras.

10. White shorts

You will be given two white shorts at the camp, but it is likely too small or two big, so it is advised to buy and bring extras for yourself.

11. White sneakers and socks

The white sneakers are a very important part of your camp outfit. You will be given a pair customized for NYSC, but they are usually of low quality.

So it would be better if you could get your own extra pair and white socks too.

Other things you need and can buy in camp include:

12. Padlock

13. Bucket

14. Toiletries

15. Rechargeable flashlights

16. Towels

17. Slippers

Have a wonderful stay in camp.

Five secrets to successful living

Time- Plan - Prayer - Patience - faith. The result is success. How? It's because with "God all things are possible".

TIME:
Its very important and essential in the life of an individual.

There's time for everything including when to read ,to eat, to play, to perambulate and hang out!

Time does not wait for anyone, you are the one who should control the time. Time ,Time its uncontrollable never.... Continue reading after this commercial break

....
say you'll read tomorrow when you have an exam in the next two days.

Start now, 'cos the way you lay your bed its how you're going to lay on it.

PLAN:
Its simply a schedule budgeted on what you're going to do according to your heart wishes compulsively or uncompulsively. Planning helps a lot.

Let me use myself as an example, I love to plan, the reason is it helps me Win. With plans I can never fail my test, with plans I can never forget when exams are fast approaching, with plans I know when to wash and when to eat also when to chat, mix with friends to flex.

When you are responsible and smart on track.
You can never lose. Those who plan to read at night are
they foolish? No.

Some don't plan .. Its only when they have exams coming they read! Plan, plan, plan; it's the beginning of breakthrough .

PRAYER:
Prayer its simply a description of a relationship pronounced intimately with seriousness and dedication with all of your heart to the creator (God).
"Prayer" is the master key! Its the only true key that unlocks every doors .

I don't know what exactly you're currently facing in life but all I know is that you shall surely excel in life?
Brethren, students don't take off your mind from God.
I swear to you God helps a lot. "Seek forth the kingdom of God first and every other thing you ask shall be
added unto you" Is it success in your exams, you want
an admission ? Tell God, pray to him.
He doeth everything you dream of. Prayer is very essential.

PATIENCE:
Its a delay, an endurance believing that someday Bad will surely turn Good and Worst will turn Better.
I don't know what you might be waiting for patiently but I know and believe that the reason for your patience will not bring you bad luck! Delay its not a denial.

Job was patient ..he had that belief he will accomplish his blessings again.
Students, if you have failed so many times, sit back and think. Think where and when and how? Oh!
Those things you failed ? Did you go back to them to make corrections?

Don't be in a haste to go to the next level. When you haven't made an amendment with the past! Please be patient and try again!

Patience its very important especially now you're still young but while waiting behave well because "Heaven
help those who help themselves".

FAITH:
Our Ancient father was a man of faith! Why are you turning off from faith? If father Abraham didn't have faith, he's living on earth will be barren.
You want to make good grades. But you keep depending on expo. What happened to you and your brain? Who created it? Was it just created for a camouflage? Why didn't you read and put on faith? Faith, faith doeth more than you've expected.

Father Abraham had faith even when God put up a test,
Father Abraham didn't do an expo. Did he run with Isaac? Or went to hide Isaac? No! He read well.. And went for the test. Unexpectedly for him, while proceeding to do what has been instructed wonders did happen on that mount he was.
The strange part of it was the Ram that was later used for the sacrifice, how did it managed to climb the mountain?
Faith did it.

Finally, I'll use this opportunity to motivate you to have a re-think and abide by these laws stated! And by the grace of God, your effort will not be in vain!
God bless you all.

WTF, could this b cake?

Wonders they say will neva end

The Truth About S3X

SEX!!!
Sex according to Pastor Khathide (Ugandan) A lot of people don't associate sex with God - they associate it with Satan and darkness, as if sex is not holy.!! The bible is explicit when it comes to sex. Sex is holy within marriage, and there is no prescribed style. Nowhere in the Bible does it say that the missionary position is the only sexual style. Not discussing sex in a relationship leads to divorce!! Pastor Khathide has counseled women who've complained: my husband treats me as if I were his brother.
There was one who told him: I am tired of getting sex fortnightly, like a salary. Khathide told her she was lucky to be getting sex fortnightly, since some wives only get it on big days, like elections. Many husbands leave their wives to seek sexual pleasures in Hillbrow. Have you ever asked yourself what those women have that you don't. Wives have become very frigid and even sleep with their panties. If you're a married woman, you should sleep naked and let your bum touch your husband.
Today you find men going out of their way to get a glimpse of a vagina. They page through magazines and even go to lingerie departments in stores hoping to see what's hidden under panties because their wives hide it from them. Marriage is about being free with your body in front of your partner. A woman should parade naked and do some modeling to tempt her husband. There are many married women who don't know what their husbands' penises look like. She only feels it when he enters her. They've never touched it, let alone seen it, because the husband switches off the lights before undressing.
A penis is a wife' s toy - she is supposed to play with it. He blames couples for not making time for sex and complaining about being tired after a day's work. You find many couples who've been sexually starved for years. God created sex for procreation and also for pleasure. You can't marry and not have a good time in bed.
WHO SAID YOU CAN ONLY HAVE SEX AT NIGHT? Why can't you drive home during lunch and have a quickie with your wife? We' re all equal in sex - it's not just about a woman satisfying a man. You have to satisfy each other. Have you ever seen a woman who has been satisfied? Have u noticed how she glows and becomes energetic? May the Lord Bless you. New discovery: plastic eating bacterial to help clean up our environment

Plastic eating bacteria
discovered a strain of bacteria that can eat plastic, a
finding that might help solve the world’s fast-
growing plastic pollution problem.
The fear of having more plastic in the ocean than
fishes seem to have been averted with this discovery
by a team at Kyoto University who found the plastic
munching microbe, by rummaging around in piles of
waste.
After five years of searching through 250 samples,
they isolated a bacteria that could live on poly
(ethylene terephthalate) (PET), the type often used to
package bottled drinks, cosmetics and household
cleaners. They named the new species of bacteria
Ideonella sakaiensis.
This could be really good news for the environment.
Almost a third of all plastic packaging escapes
collection systems and ends up in nature or in
clogging up infrastructure, the World Economic
Forum (WEF) warned. Their report based on analysis
of 20 studies and interviews with 180 experts, said
only 14% of plastic packaging is collected for
recycling and that there will be more plastic than fish
calculated by weight in the world’s oceans by 2050.
How Ideonella Sakaiensis Consumes Plastic
Bottles
According to descriptions on Science Alert, the first
discovery of plastic bottle eating bacteria was of
tricky-to-cultivate fungi, whereas, in this case the
microbe is easily grown.
The researchers more or less left the PET in a warm
jar with the bacterial culture and some other
nutrients, and a few weeks later all the plastic was
gone.
Then came the real innovation, where the team
identified the enzymes that Ideonella sakaiensis uses
to breakdown the PET. All living things contain
enzymes that they use to speed up necessary
chemical reactions. Some enzymes help digest our
food, dismantling it into useful building blocks.
Without the necessary enzymes the body can’t
access certain sources of food. Ideonella sakaiensis
seems to have evolved an efficient enzyme that the
bacteria produces when it is in an environment that
is rich in PET.
The Kyoto researchers identified the gene in the
bacteria’s DNA that is responsible for the PET-
digesting enzyme. They then were able to
manufacture more of the enzyme and then
demonstrate that PET could be broken down with the
enzyme alone.
The Bacteria’s Benefits To Plastic Bottles
Recycling
This opens a whole new approach to plastic
recycling and decontamination since most plastic
bottles are not truly recycled presently. Instead they
are melted and reformed into other hard plastic
products. Packaging companies typically
prefer freshly made ‘virgin’ plastics that are created
from chemical starting materials that are usually
derived from oil. Now the PET-digesting enzymes
could be added to vats of waste, breaking all the
bottles or other plastic items down into easy-to-
handle chemicals. These could then be used to make
fresh plastics, producing a true recycling system.

WASTE TO WEALTH? UNBELIEVABLE

Amid global outcry for oceans and lands filth caused
by the use of man-made plastics, scientists have
device a technique to turn plastics waste into liquid
fuel with less energy than previous one and produces
a higher quality end product.
Polyethylene is the most abundant plastic in the
world, used to make virtually everything from plastic
film and food packaging, to water bottles and
shopping bags. Statistics shows that around 100
million tonnes of plastics is produced every year.
A report earlier this year says that 95 percent of
plastic is thrown out after being used just once, and
8 million tonnes of plastic – or one garbage truck-full
every minute – ends up in our oceans each year.
Method For Converting Waste Plastics into
Liquid Fuel
The combined team of researchers from the Chinese
Academy of Sciences and University of California
deviced the technique which involves mixing the
plastics with an organometallic (chemical)
catalyst normally used to produce polymers, and sets
them to breaking down polymers instead.
The reaction caused the bonds holding the plastic
together to weaken, allowing them to be more easily
torn apart. After which the team was able to use the
broken down material to create a diesel-like fuel
which they claim could be used to power vehicles
and other motors — they report that burning the fuel
is also cleaner than burning other combustible
materials.

As Fiona MacDolnard reported,
In a business-as-usual scenario, the ocean is
expected to contain 1 tonne of plastic for every 3
tonnes of fish by 2025, and by 2050, more plastics
than fish.”

This has plunged scientists into frantic researches to
find a lasting solution which is; to turn plastic waste
into a commodity that people can actually use, and
given all the hydrogen and carbon that makes up
polyethylene, liquid hydrocarbon fuel is the obvious
choice.
Now, recycling has been the only option for reducing
polyethylene accumulations, but even though they
are made from fossil fuels, converting it back to its
base parts has been a massive challenge, because of
how stable plastic is as a chemical compound.
One of the team, Zhibin Guan, who’s a synthetic
polymer chemist said"
If you leave plastic in the ocean or the environment
or you bury it underground, it’s going to stay there for
hundreds or thousands of years.”
“If you try to heat them at more than 400 degrees
Celsius (which some methods do), they collapse into
all kinds of combinations, resulting in a messy mix of
gas, oil, wax and char that’s not especially useful.”

However, this new method only require heating (far
less energy than similar techniques) at around 175
degrees Celsius (347 fahrenheit) – rather than 400
degrees (752 fahrenheit) – to break down the plastic,
it uses. But the downsides are the process is slow –
taking about four days to complete – and the
catalysts are expensive to use.
Robert Service explained:
“For starters, the catalysts break down polyethylene
slowly, over the course of a day or more. They are
also expensive and decompose after breaking apart
just a few thousand polymer chains, far less than the
millions carried out by most commercial catalysts.”

The good news is, Guan and his colleagues are
working to overcome those problems, in the hopes
that they can one day extract new value from the
millions of tons of plastic waste that we discard
every year.

Mother caught making luv with son

A mother has pleaded with a court to have mercy on her

after she was caught having s*x with her 26-year-old son.
The couple were caught having s*x by a relative at
Kenzamba Business Centre in Makonde District of
Zimbabwe.
According to The Herald, the mother (age unknown) of
Madzudzo Village under Chief Magonde and her son are
said to have started having the incestuous affair between
November 2 and November 17, 2016.
They have now appeared in court before Chinhoyi
magistrate Miss Brenda Dhliwayo facing charges of
having sexual intercourse within a prohibited degree of
relationship in contravention of Section 75 (2) of the
Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
They were convicted on their own guilty plea and
remanded in custody to tomorrow for sentence.
She also said officials need to verify the mother’s age
after she indicated to the court that she was 33-years-old
which means she was seven-years-old when she gave
birth to the co-accused, her second born child.
Explaining how it all started, the Prosecutor Mr Claude
Karenga alleged that sometime this month, the son who
was staying in Mhangura moved to live with his mother in
Kenzamba.
It is while they were staying together that a sexual
relationship blossomed into a fully fledged affair that got
people thinking that they were a couple.
Upon being caught, investigations established that the
two had sexual encounters on numerous occasions in the
mother’s hut and the son’s kitchen, which is also his
bedroom.
They also had trysts at Kenzamba Business Centre.
Asked why she engaged in an incestuous relationship
with her son, the woman said she has been a widow for
sometime and wanted to satisfy her sexual desire.
“Your honour, I lost my husband who happened to be
accused two’s father sometime ago, and I have not had
s*x in a while,” she said, leaving the gallery in stitches.
The son was also asked why he slept with his mother and
his answer also drew sighs of bewilderment and laughter
as he told the court that he touched his mother and she
did not resist.
“I ended up sleeping with my mother after I tried touching
her one day and she did not offer any resistance which
showed that my advances were welcome,” said the son.
Cases of relatives, particularly mothers and their sons,
engaging in incestuous relationships have been on the
increase with a Masvingo woman declaring her desire to
marry her son.

little boy beaten brutally by his master for stealing money to eat in school

Post by Eze Chidimma November 22, 2016
It appears like the more efforts are made to preach
against child abuse, the more it increases.
Surprisingly, it seems the women have passed over
the baton of violence against children to the men.
Previously, most acts of child abuse were
perpetrated by women but recent reports show that
the men are beginning to take over. Could it be a
physical expression of the frustration brought about
by the current economic situation in the country?
Maybe. Here is the story of what a master did to his
house boy.
A Facebook user, Onyeka Mbaeze, gave a short
account of what happened yesterday, November 22,
in an unknown area of Lagos State with a horrible
picture of a young boy whose face was covered with
the blood dripping from his broken head. The boy
allegedly received a brutal beating from his master
for stealing his money which he (the boy) went to
school with.
I understand that it’s possible the young boy might
have stolen his master’s money before but was
pardoned. However, I doubt if the man who did this
would beat his own biological child to this extent if
he happened to have been the one who stole his
money. In fact, I’m sure he won’t want any outsider
to hear about it.
It is always very dangerous to dish out physical
punishment to a child in anger. Would there have
been any acceptable explanation for the man’s
action if the kid had died? Is there any adult who
would claim he never stole anything as a child? Of
course not!
Don’t get me wrong, stealing is very wrong but there
are other correctional punishments that will make a
child realise his action was wrong other than a grown
man testing the efficacy of his muscles on a little
defenceless boy who will only end up becoming
hardened by the pains of the punishment.

No more burial ceremony in Benin til..... says Oba of Benin

The Benin Traditional Council has banned all burial
ceremonies in the kingdom till January 2017,
following the crowning of the new Oba of Benin on
Thursday, October 20, 2016.
In a statement released on October 2, the Benin
Traditional Council stated that the post-coronation
ceremonies of His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo,
Uku Akpolopkolo, Oba Erediauwa, Oba of Benin, is
still ongoing until December ending.
The new monarch was crowned as the 39th Oba of
Benin kingdom in a colourful ceremony on Thursday,
October 20, 2016.
Ahead of the coronation ceremonies of Oba Ewuare
II, prohibition was placed on burial activities in the
kingdom untill further notice.
The Oba of Benin is the traditional ruler of the Edo
people and head of the historic Eweka dynasty of the
Great Benin Empire.
In following developments, a family in Benin have
incurred the wrath of the newly crowned Oba Ewuare
II, for planning the burial ceremony of their father.
The family of Uhunmwangho from Isi village in
Uhunmwode Local Government area of Edo state
were dragged to the palace of the new Oba of Benin
for organizing burial ceremonies of their father when
the ban on burial ceremonies was still in force for the
Oba coronation.
Some chiefs from the Oba’s palace, soon after all
was set for the social dance for the burial
ceremonies at Iguodala Primary School in Benin City,
stormed the venue and tied ‘Umehe’ leaves on the
food, drinks and canopies.
The ‘Umenhe’ leaves is a message of no trespass
from the Oba. Some members of the family were
arrested and taken to the palace while the musician
engaged to provide entertainment was also dragged
to the palace.Oba of Benin stops burial ceremony in Benin
As penalty for their sin, the family will have to pay
some fine and postpone the burial in order to cleanse
the lands and save the family.

VEIN IDENTIFICATION

Another technology innovation is the biometric identification
and security device known as PalmSecure.
It works by identifying the vein pattern in the palms of our
hands.
Similar to our fingerprints, vein patterns are unique to each
individual. The purported advantages of this technology is that
it is less expensive, easier to manage, and is more reliable
than traditional methods of identification.
We already know through fingerprint security and also the
latest from Sony is Mofiria where the blood vessel in the
finger . And now , one of the latest security technologies is
known as Fujitsu Palm Secure , security through the blood
vessel that is in the palm ( palm vein).
Because using the same technology as Sony Mofiria namely
through the introduction of the blood vessel can also have
benefits to guess which is faster for scanning, more
accurate and safer to use because it is not affected by
problems that often occur with the fingerprint scanning ,
such as through dirty hands or exfoliate the skin .
Both Palm and Mofiria Secure system without touching
(contactless ) so that the scan tool that has its own risks
damaged / dirty that much smaller because it is often left
out by humans , such as through the fingerprint scanning .
One thing that we can , Palm Secure does not seem to be
suitable for use in portable devices such as mobile phones
because of its size is greater than Sony Mofiria .
But of course they are a technology which would replace
through fingerprint scanning.

SOLAR GRID NOW POWERS THE ENTIRE ISLAND IN THE SOUTH PACIFIC

Solar energy, a renewable development

AmericanSamoa is an unincorporated territory of the United States located in the South Pacific. Like a lot of remote islands, life within the island chain is challenging in ways we rarely think about on the mainland, particularly when it comes to power generation. The island of Ta’u is the easternmost volcanic island of the Samoan islands, and it’s historically relied on diesel generators for power, despite the constant need to import fuel. Now, thanks to Tesla, the villagers have enough renewable power to meet nearly 100% of their needs.

“I recall a time they weren’t able to get the boat out here for two months,” said Keith Ahsoon, a local resident whose family owns one of the food stores on the island, in a Tesla blog post. “We rely on that boat for everything, including importing diesel for the generators for all of our electricity. Once diesel gets low, we try to save it by using it only for mornings and afternoons. Water systems here also use pumps, everyone in the village uses and depends on that. It’s hard to live not knowing what’s going to happen. I remember growing up using candlelight. And now, in 2016, we were still experiencing the same problems.”

Now, a new 1.4MW microgrid will provide power to virtually the entire island, backed up by 6MWh of battery storage. That’s estimated to be enough capacity to handle overnight needs for the entire island, though diesel generators and diesel fuel can still be kept on-site for backup purposes.

This new deployment of solar power was financed by the American Samoa Economic Development Authority, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Department of Interior and is expected to save an estimated 109,500 gallons of diesel fuel per year. The cost of transporting such fuel to remote locations is extremely high, and the island’s location and weather patterns make solar an excellent fit for the small community. American Samoa’s population has been shrinking for decades due to limited economic opportunity, and relying on periodic diesel shipments and electricity rationing when the boat can’t run won’t have helped that scenario. Constant, steady electrical power won’t magically revitalize the islands, but it’s hard to attract businesses when you can’t promise a steady electrical supply.

The island’s new infrastructure and battery installation.
“This is part of making history,” said Ahsoon in the post. “This project will help lessen the carbon footprint of the world. Living on an island, you experience global warming firsthand. Beach erosions and other noticeable changes are a part of life here. It’s a serious problem, and this project will hopefully set a good example for everyone else to follow.”

This isn’t the first time we’ve talked about how batteries and renewable power can reshape life for remote communities or less-developed nations. Massive electrical grids that provide cheap power to entire nations are great if you can build them, but millions of people across the planet live in areas where such service isn’t available. Whether due to political instability, war, limited economic resources, or the sheer difficulty of building infrastructure in remote locations, these areas need to be able to generate electricity at the local level. Solar farms and technologies like flow batteries can provide this service where conventional generators and fossil fuels fall short, and we expect to see more of these kinds of announcements as solar and wind prices continue to fall and technology improves.

Tidal power generation is another possibility, at least in some locations. While only a handful of countries have deployed tidal power generators to-date, Nova Scotia recently made headlines for deploying a 2MW generator in the Bay of Fundy. While tidal power remains extremely expensive compared w

China to begin turning coal to nuclear reactor, starting from 2018

China to start turning coal to nuclear reactor

It’s a common refrain among climate change down-players — those who accept its reality, but who argue that we can’t or shouldn’t do much about it — that, sure, first world Western countries could be doing a lot more to reduce their emissions, but it hardly matters when you’ve got countries like India and China pumping more and more pollution into the very same biosphere. The argument has been getting weaker in recent years, as even developing nations have started to sign on to meaningful climate action plans. Now, Chinese atomic energy experts have announced an ambitious plan to begin turning the country’s coal plant infrastructure into working nuclear power stations. The first working demonstration unit could begin real commercial operations as early as 2018.

The plan could turn the growing Asian nation into one of the world’s most aggressive actors on climate change — though just as important to China is nuclear’s ability to help deal with its growing problem with air pollution. It could also kickstart the global nuclear industry, which was flagging even before the Fukushima disaster of five years ago. China may be about to prove that newly advanced nuclear tech offers a way for some large industrialized nations to dramatically reduce their carbon footprint without bankrupting themselves, or simply betting that solar and wind power will progress fast enough to matter at all on the global utility scale.

Germany’s THTR-300 high temperature gas-cooled reactor. The news comes from this year’s High Temperature Reactor Conference, where Professor Zhang Zuoyi reportedly gave a talk on the subject, receiving a “sustained round of clapping,” complete with “a few hoots” from the gathered scientists. The reason for their enthusiasm should be obvious. Here, we could have a potential solution to the biggest practical problem with a large-scale pivot toward “Generation IV” nuclear designs with advance, passive safety systems: cost. Under the proposed plan, China can use re-use a huge proportion of the money it spent building coal plants, removing the furnaces and boilers from its super-critical coal plants and replacing them with the stripped-down hearts of high-temperature gas cooled nuclear reactors (HTGRs).

The coal stations targeted under this plan are numerous, but specific. Only super-critical steam plants are built to withstand the high operating temperatures HTGRs require. The early target stations should also be as close to population centers as possible — again, one of the main goals here is to reduce the health effects of coal plant air pollution, and you can’t accomplish that by reducing emissions in the middle of nowhere. So, if this plan is to actually go forward, it will need make a strong case for its own intrinsic safety.

A graphite-shelled nuclear pebble.
As a result, the project will focus on a form of nuclear plant called a pebble-bed reactor, in which the nuclear fuel is divided into little micro-fuel pellets that are then built up to baseball-sized spheres with successive layers of graphite and ceramic materials. The coatings on each fuel pellet act as the neutron moderator, doing the same job as the water that lies between the fuel rods in a classical thermal reactor, and the melting points of these coatings are all higher than any temperature the fuel pellets can create in this reactor.

Hundreds of these spheres become a rubble pile with space in between for gas to flow, in this in this case helium, and absorb heat before carrying it away. In some cases, this heated gas directly turns a turbine, but in this plan it will heat a duo of boilers to create steam, and turn the turbine more traditionally. The lack of the notoriously complex cooling systems of water reactors is one of the things that makes the Chine

BREAKING: OBASANJO ATTACKS BUHARI, SAYS " FIX THE MESS AND STOP COMPLAINING".

– Olusegun Obasanjo says it is tiring to hear the complaints of the Buhari administration when it was voted in to change the mistakes of the past

Former president Olusegun Obasanjo says President Buhari should stop complaining and fix the mess
Former president Olusegun Obasanjo has attacked President Muhammadu Buhari for dwelling too much on the past and failing to turn around the fortunes of the country.

Premium Times reports that while delivering the keynote address at the First Akintola Williams Annual Lecture in Lagos on Wednesday, November 23, Obasanjo lashed at the Buhari administration for accusing all previous administrations of mis-governance.

He advised that since Buhari was elected to change the country, he should concentrate on clearing the mess he inherited.

“Now that we have had change because the actors and the situation needed to be changed, let us move forward to have progress through a comprehensive economic policy and programme that is intellectually, strategically and philosophically based,” Mr. Obasanjo said.

“It is easier to win an election than to right the wrongs of a badly fouled situation. When you are outside, what you see and know are nothing compared with the reality.

“And yet once you are on seat, you have to clear the mess and put the nation on the path of rectitude, development and progress leaving no group or section out of your plan, programme and policy and efforts. The longer it takes, the more intractable the problem may become.”

Obasanjo also wondered why President Buhari needed about $30billion loan to fix the economy.

“I am sure that such a comprehensive policy and programme (that will move Nigeria forward) will not support borrowing US$30 billion in less than three years. It will give us the short-, medium- and long-term picture.

“Adhocry is not the answer but cold, hard headed planning that evinces confidence and trust is the answer. Economy neither obeys orders nor does it work according to wishes. It must be worked upon with all factors considered and most stakeholders involved.

“The investors, domestic and foreign, are no fools and they know what is going on with the management of the economy including the foreign exchange and they are not amused. The Central Bank must be restored to its independence and integrity. We must be careful and watchful of the danger of shortermism.

“Short-term may be the enemy of medium- and long-term. We must also make allowance for the lessons that most of us in democratic dispensation have learned and which the present administration seems to be just learning.”

The former president used to be a staunch supporter of President Buhari but all that seems to have changed.

Obasanjo also did not forget to mention that the national assembly is a cesspool of corruption that stinks to the high heavens.

This is not the first time he has come after the federal lawmakers of the 8th assembly who also do not have any love lost for him.

But we were amazed when she eventually delivered the baby with two horns on the head after going into labor for some hours. By the time she was delivered of the baby, it was already dead and we had to separate it from the placenta. She would not reveal the whereabouts of the woman who delivered the baby.

“I cannot give you any details about her. Like I told you, she lives in one of the farm settlements on the outskirts of Ilesa and I don’t really know the area and I want you to leave me out of this matter,” she added.
