BREAKING: Riyad Mahrez crowned 2016 CAF African Footballer of the Year

 

Leicester City and Algeria midfielder Riyad Mahrez has been awarded the 2016 CAF African footballer of the year ahead of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Saido Mane.


Mahrez was named Africa's best at the 2016 Glo/CAF awards gala that was held in Abuja on Thursday, January 5.

The Algerian adds the award to his BBC African Footballer of the Year award.

Mahrez led Leicester City to Premier League glory and won the English Players' Player of the Year award.

Gabon international Aubameyang was named second best while Senegal's Mane came third.

2015 winner Aubameyang continued his wonderful scoring form Dortmund while Liverpool's Mane was sensational for Senegal as they sealed qualification for the 2017 African Cup of Nations.
